Packaging <March 18 ~ 24 2024>

This is the first edition of Fuseinatti Letters on Fuseinatti.com (previously on Substack). If you were a subscriber on Substack, your subscription has been moved here. I will focus today on the new packaging we have been working on the past week. Enjoy the read!

Fuseinatti Updates:

  • Silk Shirt Packaging:

    • Initial Packaging Idea: part of the customized feature of the Silk Shirt is the packaging. As you may have already seen, every single Silk Shirt comes with a distinctive number 1 ~ 100/200, and every number has its own unique pattern. In order to maintain the same exclusivity, the initial idea was to customize the packaging and have a different number printed with each package. Unfortunately, the logistics to process such thing would have taken a month at least.

    • First Two Releases Packaging: in order to keep the customized feature and meet the release date, I decided to go the old fashioned way. With the help of an old stamping workshop Northern Tokyo, we were able to make customized stamps to replace machine prints. (See below).

    • Next Release Packaging: perhaps the greatest part about printing your logo manually is the love poured and authenticity that comes with it. It is indeed a demanding process, especially as orders increase rapidly. Moving forward, the next release will be packaged in a print packaging with a logo I have been heavily working on the past week. The customized numbers will remain there, but the logo will be printed to sustain the process efficiently. (See below picture for the new packaging logo).

    • Types of Packaging: in most industries, there are mainly 3 types: Primary Packaging, Secondary Packaging, Tertiary Packaging. (See below picture for reference). From the customer's perspective, only the primary and secondary packaging would matter, as they play the first vital role when defining quality. For Fuseinatti, the type of primary packaging varies depending on the garment. Mostly, we use the scraps of Kimono silk bolts called "(着物はぎれ)" - refer to the picture below. Moving forward, for this part of the packaging as well, we will have a new method which I will leave for another time.

Weekly Fashion Inspiration:

  • The Overlooked Power of Hairstyle in Fashion:

I've come to realize the often underestimated importance of hairstyle in crafting the perfect look. While many may perceive it as a secondary aspect compared to clothing, in reality, hairstyle can often be the main attraction, setting the tone for the entire ensemble.

Regardless of personal preference, take a moment to examine the pictures provided below. Place your finger on the hair and imagine the outfit with a different hairstyle. There is no fashion piece that could replace the profound influence hairstyles have on how an outfit is perceived. This, I firmly believe, should be the new point of attention when figuring out a new style.
